The M.D. of Smoky River, or commonly referred to as the Smoky River Region, is a vibrant, productive area of nearly 1,000,000 acres located in the Peace Country in north-western Alberta. The communities of Falher, McLennan, Girouxville, and Donnelly are within the M.D. boundaries. In total, approximately 5,000 people live in the Smoky River Region. The area is characterized by strong agricultural roots rich in Francophone culture. Pioneering French settlers opened up the land in the area in the early 1900's. As one of the most productive agricultural areas in the province, the Smoky River Region is a warm and welcoming place in which to live. A combination of culture, recreation and people contribute to the exciting quality of life in the area.
Town of Falher Known as the "Honey Capital of Canada", Falher is a buzzing community located in the Smoky River Region of Alberta's Peace District. Falher was named after a French Missionary, Father Constant Falher, O.M.I. The Colony of Saint Jean Baptiste Falher was established in 1912. After many new settlers arrived in the following years, the colony divided into what is now known as the Village of Donnelly and the Town of Falher. Falher received village status in 1929 and was incorporated as a Town in 1955.

Donnelly is home to beautiful open fields and is a great place for any family to come, to get away from the big city. Donnelly’s Population is 305 as of the 2012 Census.
